Bigger Sculpted and Aggressive looking tank..!!

I am sure that after getting your heart pumping and your pulses racing with the above photos/pics, I know this is going to be a cruel blow. But sorry guys, the photos posted above are actually of a modified Pulsar DTS-i 180..!!.

And the most interesting fact is that, this piece of art has originated from Indonesia..!!

Indonesia, the third largest two-wheeler market in the world after China and India is basically a market dominated by step thru two wheelers. But like India there is also a niche category of Motorcycle enthusiasts. It is this segment that Bajaj Auto is hoping to cater to with its Pulsar DTS-i 180 model which has been on sale in Indonesia since November 2006.

Carbon Fibre Finish

The above modifications carried out on the Indonesian Pulsar DTSi 180 goes to show the common tastes that bikers in Indonesia and India share.

The following modifications have been carried out on the Indonesian Pulsar DTSi 180..

Upside Down front forks

Monoshock at the rear

Tank Shrouds to give the bike a “Big” feel

Oversized front Disc Brakes

Rear Disc Brakes (the original front brake has been used here)

Integrated Turn indicators front/back

Half Chain Cover (Finished in “Carbon Fibre” look)

Split Rear Grab Rails (Finished in “Carbon Fibre” look)

Removable Pillion Seat Cover (Finished in “Carbon Fibre” look)

A Custom Paint Job

110 section front/120 section rear, Bridgestone tyres

Details of Modifications

From the pictures the order of workmanship seems to be professional and of high order.

Upside Down forks, Monoshock, a Big Sharp Sculpted tank, special colors..?? And how about a FEAR THE “CARBON FIBRE BLACK” LOOK for the Pulsar UG IV..??

The mods were carried out by “Caprin Racing” of Surabaya, Indonesia. The total cost incurred for the entire modifications apart from the donor bike was around Rs. 40,000-42,000 (Indian Currency).

In the past all I have published were a few computer generated pictures of bikes which were either mailed to me by TBCI readers or downloaded from other websites or blogs which were created using photo editing software. Most of these pictures again have been of the Pulsar created by Indonesians. Let me make this clear that this shouldn’t be interpreted in any way that TBCI is biased towards Bajaj.

Thanks to “Caprin Racing”, this time I could publish photos of a real and excellent modification job. The Bike Chronicles of India thanks Caprin Racing of Indonesia for sharing these photos with us.

Over to you Bajaj Auto:

Well now..!! When Bajaj decides to bring out the Pulsar UG IV variant (with TVS getting aggressive, I believe that is going to be soon), won’t you like to see something similar..??

Upside Down forks, Monoshock, a Big Sharp Sculpted tank, special colors..?? And how about a FEAR THE “CARBON FIBRE BLACK” LOOK this time around..??

Isn’t she a sight for sore eyes..??

Of late everything has been falling into place for me..

# Quit my I.T job in Bangalore (still can’t call it “Bengaluru”)

# I get access to Auto Expo 2008 on the day reserved for the press (thanks to my new job. Talk about being in the right place in the right time.)

# Only to be greeted by the news that Bajaj will bring the 2008 Ninja 250R in India

In one sentence, “Life is beautiful..!!

Just take a peek at three of my posts made in October 2007.. “Nostradamus” couldn’t have done a better job I’d say.

2008 Kawasaki Ninja 250R..!! Bring this one to India please [October 14, 2007]

I’d rather ride a 250-400 cc slowly through a pothole, than “Day Dream” of riding the R1 on the Golden Quadrilateral..!! [Oct 27, 2007]

30 BHP, 250 cc, Twin Cylinder Bikes are for Ladies..!! [Oct 28, 2007]

I still maintain that 250 cc, twin cylinder bikes are for ladies.. but considering my financial constraints, I can’t think of a better way to age gracefully and lose the rest of my hair.

The Price hasn’t been decided yet but the Ninja 250R is expected to appear in India by Mid 2008.

By the way, the 2008 Ninja is manufactured in Thailand and sold for $ 3,500 in the U.S. So if Bajaj could get the the Ninja 250 in “CKD” (Completely Knocked Down) or “SKD” (Semi Knocked down) kits (to ease the custom duties), then we could probably get the Ninja 250R for anywhere between 2.0 – 2.5 lakhs.

Tech Specs of the 2008 Ninja 250R sold in the U.S.A:

The 4 Valve, Bajaj XCD Sprint will move the 125 cc segment a notch higher..

Thanks to its excellent styling, the TVS Flame has managed to get quite a lot of guys talking.. also the recently launched Yamaha Gladiator Type-SS has done its bit to get the consumer interested in the 125 cc segment. But according to me the bike which could really move the 125 cc segment a notch higher could be the Bajaj XCD DTS-i Sprint.

XCD Sprint is “The 125 cc Bike” to look forward to in 2008..

Based on the XCD platform, in place of the DTS-Si (Digital Twin Spark Plug Swirl Induction) engine of the XCD, the 125 cc XCD Sprint engine gets the DTSi (Digital Twin Spark Plug) technology which does duties on the bigger Pulsars and the Discover.

What would actually set apart the XCD Sprint from the other 125 cc bikes would be its 4-Valve engine and the Maximum Power Output of 12.5 Ps. Which would make it the most powerful 125 cc bike (the Gladiator is the current class leader at 11 Ps).

According to me, the XCD Sprint is “The 125 cc Bike” to look forward to in 2008. The styling of the XCD Sprint is radical (I’d actually term it as “Freaky”). Just look at the way the rear number plate is held by a “trellis” frame like metal piece. I even like the way the rear “Tyre Hugger” is held over the “Fat” (100 mm wide) Rear Tyre.

But the “Pièce de résistance” for me is the LED Tail Lights of the XCD Sprint. I have yet to see such a radical design on a tail lamp.

Coupled with the Most Powerful, 4-Valve, 125 cc DTSi Engine the XCD Sprint shown at the Auto Expo also sported..

With the XCD Sprint, Bajaj can actually target the “18-21 years old” (Just in College with a driving licence- segment)

Front Disc Brakes

Split Grab Rails

An exposed O-Ring Sealed Chain,

Gas Filled “Nitrox” shock absorbers at the rear,

A 100 section Rear Tyre (as Fat as the ones found on the Pulsar 150/180)

New bodywork (except for the tank),

“Freaky” new Headlamp Design

LED Tail Lamps

Digital Speedometers with the Tachomoter and backlit switches (like found on the Pulsars),

Lower handle bar for a sporty riding position,

With the XCD Sprint, Bajaj can actually target the “18-21 years old” Segment (Just in College with a driving licence- segment).

This is one segment which according to me has so far been neglected by every bike maker. A 150 cc bike can sometimes be intimidating for a learner and given a good alternative, young guys wouldn’t like to ride 100 cc economiser bikes.

The XCD Sprint has the “Look at me” radical looks, the “Class leading Power” and comes Fully Equiped with the Eye Candy “Goodies” to go down well with the young and the restless brigade.

Launch date and Price: Although there is no official confirmation so far, according to me the XCD Sprint should make it to the showrooms by April 2008 and like all Bajaj products should also sport an aggressive price tag.

Which includes..
Development of engine and vehicle platforms: The KTM Group will provide the know-how for the joint development of high-efficient water- cooled 4-stroke engines (125-ccm and 250-ccm).KTM will use these engines for its street motorcycles in the new street entry segment. The joint developments will also be available as basis for Bajaj-products.This arrangement will see Bajaj Auto and KTM working together to 3 -4 models in the 125-250 cc categories. 20,000 units of the bikes co-developed by bajaj and KTM will initially be exported to Europe and will be rolled out in the first half of 2010.The alliance will not only enable Bajaj to take over the distribution of KTM products in India and South East Asia, it will also enable the Indian two wheeler major to access the European market through KTMRead more about it here, here and here.
KTM has strong brand presence in Europe and United States. It offers more than 23 motorcycles, ranging in engine size from 50cc to 950 cc and is the largest non-Japanese off road motorcycle manufacturer in the world.Like Bajaj Auto’s future plans for building a four wheeler, KTM has also recently developed a sporty four wheeler.. called the X-Bow.
KTM X-Bow
One look at the KTM X-Bow and its obvious that the KTM brand shines through even though is a four wheeler.. and in fact it goes to reinforces the KTM brand. But the X-Bow at around $50K-$55K is a costly toy.Maybe Bajaj should take a leaf from KTM when it decides to launch its four wheeler (with Renault). The Bajaj-Renault four wheeler need not be as expensive as the KTM X-Bow.. but the offering must reflect the spirit/essence of the Bajaj brand.Instead of trying to outdo the Maruti 800 or the 1 lakh car from Tata, a Bajaj four wheeler which embodies the spirit of its most famous brand “the Pulsar”, would be just great..!!

KTM 990 Superduke
You can barely find words to express the riding fun and the feeling that the KTM 990 Superduke gives you when it’s in motion. Just as KTM re-invented the Streetfighter, you try to invent new words for what happens beneath you curve after curve. The KTM 990 Superduke sweeps through curves – ultra-precise, radical and agile. The landscape flies past fast, faster, much too fast. You feel the road, the centrifugal force and want more.
KTM 690 Duke
KTM presents the 690 Duke, the ultimate single-cylinder naked bike! It’s driven by themost powerful, 65 HP (48 kW), street-legal single of all time, equipped with a superior street suspension and assembled with a discernible passion for design and technology.
KTM 250 EXC-F
If a bike can truly earn the name “muscle man” in the small class, then this super-light and extremely agile four-stroke does. Equipped with state of the art, four-valve technology, the XC-F delivers plenty of power, which it applies perfectly to the track every time. Excellent power development – from enormous force at lower speeds, to maximum performance at peak rpms.
But that is only the first key to success. Because, with its new chassis and totally new bodywork, the 250 XC-F is certainly a constant guarantee of podium placements.
via: MG_Biker1806 a member of XBHP

TVS motor has filed a defamation suit against Bajaj Auto in Bombay High Court and another suit in Madras High Court under the patent law. With this, TVS has taken the lead to begin the legal war with its rival, Bajaj Auto.Earlier this week, TVS filed a Rs 250-crore defamation suit in Bombay High Court against Bajaj Auto’s allegation of infringement (by TVS) of intellectual property rights on technology that is used in most Bajaj bikes. TVS has also filed another suit under the Indian Patents Act in Madras High Court to counter Bajaj’s claims on patent violation or infringement by TVS.Soon after TVS unveiled a range of new products on August 30, 2007, Bajaj had alleged that TVS had used its digital twin spark ignition technology ( DTS-i) in the latest models, including the 125-cc bike, Flame, that was showcased by TVS on the occasion. In turn, TVS declared if the “malicious and reckless charge” was not withdrawn by Bajaj, it would file a libel suit for Rs 250 crore. TVS also said it would ensure, by appropriate legal means, that Bajaj did not interfere with its use of its in-house VTi technology, on the basis of which TVS has already announced new launches commencing November. Now that TVS is preparing for the launches in November and December, it has filed the Rs 250-crore defamation suit in Bombay High Court. When contacted by ET, a senior TVS Motor official confirmed filing of the suit.“As of now, we do not know what will be the reaction from Bajaj and also when they will react,” the official added. TVS has also filed another suit in Madras High Court to counter its rival’s charge that TVS had copied its patented digital twin spark ignition technology in the 125-cc TVS flame slated to be launched in December. TVS’s contention is that it is a “groundless threat”.TVS’s stated stand on the technology issue is that “the patent rights claimed by Bajaj Auto for its Internal Combustion Engine is not for ‘twin spark plugs’ per se. It is for the use of twin spark plugs in two valve engine.” On the other hand, TVS technology is a combination of its in-house developed innovative technology VTi and use of AVL’s patented 3 valves technology in engine. In line with its stand, TVS Motor in August this year, moved an application before the Intellectual property Appellate board, Chennai, to revoke the patent granted to Bajaj Auto on the ground that patent claimed by Bajaj is a known prior art.Sources in Bajaj Auto said the company has not yet received any paper or communication from the court. The company would study the papers and take necessary action to defend itself before the court of law.Source:- Economictimes.indiatimes

The Discover hadn’t been selling that well. As admitted by Mr. Rajiv Bajaj himself, Bajaj Auto was selling less than 5,000 Discover 112 per month (read about it here..). This leaves only the Discover DTSi 135 as the production model holding the Discover brand name. Read about it here..With the decision to discontinue the 112 and 125 cc models of the Discover, Bajaj Auto has made it clear that it will target the entry level 125 cc segment with its XCD, priced attractively at Rs. 41-42K (Ex-Showroom Pune) which is close to the price tag of the 100 cc Hero Honda Splendor. The Discover DTS-i 135 must have been successful for Bajaj since they are planning to continue with this particular model. At least in Bangalore City I have witnessed quite a few Discover DTS-I 135 cc models pottering around.
